ENABLE link

laura.jpgMy name is Laura and I’m an amateur photographer.

That’s how I got involved with ENABLE Scotland. They run a camera club for young people where I live in East Dunbartonshire.

It’s part of ENABLELink, a project that supports people with learning disabilities to make friends. I don’t have a learning disability, but I’ve made some great friends who do.

We’re a mixed group. Some have learning disabilities, some don’t. It’s really not a big deal; we’re just all teenagers who like taking photographs. And we’ve taken some great ones, even if I say so myself.

The great thing about ENABLELink is that it’s not about learning disability; it’s about meeting new people and having a good time. It’s just that people with learning disabilities often don’t get the same chances to do that. Sometimes they need a bit of extra support and that’s what ENABLELink gives them.

Everyone needs friends, simple as that, and I’m proud to be part of something that gives people with learning disabilities the chance to have the sort of life everyone wants.
