Materials: Blank paper (A3 is ideal) and any creative/artistic materials appropriate for the children and young people you are working with. These can include magazines, newspapers, scissors and glue (for cut-outs) - crayons, felt-tip pens, coloured pencils, paint, ink stamps and any visual communication tools such as talking mats.
Activity: Step-by-Step
- Think about how you want your life to be when you grow up. Some of the big questions that might come to mind are:
- Where do you want to live? - What kind of home would you like? - Who will you want to be with? (perhaps your own family, pets?) - What job would you like to do? - What things will you do in your free time?
- Get creative! Use the materials you have to create an image of your future life as you want it to be.
- Remember that there are no limits whatsoever – you are free to create your life with all your Hopes & Dreams fulfilled!
- Share your hopes and dreams picture with a friend, family, group or class. Ask them about their hopes & dreams
Presentations: Hopes & dreams can form the basis of a series of presentations to a class or group as a shared outcome of the activity. Children and young people can develop and present their hopes & dreams in a format appropriate to any communication needs they may have. Such presentations can fit within existing support activities such as circle time.
